Terms of use

ExpenseGen is operated by Genact AI Studio Sdn Bhd, a company registered in Malaysia. By creating an account you agree to what follows. Last updated 12 October 2026.

The short version

  • • We never move money. The app records what you tell it and shows the payment details you saved.
  • • What you record is yours. Export it any time, delete it any time.
  • • Don't use it to break the law or to harass people you share a group with.
  • • Free to use, with an optional paid subscription. Provided as-is — we can't be liable for a settlement you got wrong.

What the service does

ExpenseGen records expenses you enter, divides them among people you name, and shows the resulting balances. Where you have saved a way to be paid — a QR image, account details, or both — it shows that to someone who owes you so they can pay you. Those details may not contain links, and we remove any that do.

We are not a payment service. No money passes through ExpenseGen at any point. We do not hold funds, we are not connected to your bank or wallet, and we are not licensed or regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia. A payment happens entirely inside your own banking or e-wallet app, between you and the other person. Marking a balance as settled records your statement that it was paid — it is not proof of payment and we cannot verify, reverse or recover one.

Your account

You need an account, and you are responsible for keeping its password to yourself. Tell us at[email protected] if you think someone else has it. You must be 18 or older.

If you forget it, a reset link goes to your email address — so whoever controls that inbox can take the account. Resetting signs you out on every device, which is deliberate: the usual reason to reset is believing someone else is in there.

Adding someone to a group by email gives that person access to that group's expenses, including the amounts and who paid. Only add people who should see them.

Your content

Expenses, receipts, group names and payment details you save stay yours. You give us only the permission needed to store and display them back to you and to the people you have shared a group with. We do not sell them and we do not use them to train anything.

Don't upload anything you do not have the right to, and don't upload anything unlawful. We can remove content and suspend accounts that break this, and we will tell you why.

The AI features

Three things in ExpenseGen use an AI model: scanning a receipt, theassistant you can type to, and scanning a product. All three are optional, all three spend credits from your monthly allowance, and all three send what you give them to a model that runs outside Malaysia — the privacy policy sets out exactly what is sent and what is not.

Treat what they give back as a draft, not an answer. The scanner misreads handwriting and faded print; the assistant can be confidently wrong about anything, including arithmetic. Nothing an AI feature produces is recorded until you confirm it, and once you confirm it the figure is yours in exactly the way a typed one is. The assistant is not financial, tax or legal advice. It can look up your own records to answer a question about them — what you spent, what you are owed, how a budget stands — and it sees no more than your own account already shows you. A figure it quotes is only as good as the lookup behind it: check it against the app before you rely on it. It cannot record, change, delete or send anything by itself.

You can connect your own AI app to your account under Me → Connected AI. It reads what your account shows you and can propose entries that wait for you to save; it cannot change anything by itself. The token you are given is a key to your records: keep it private, and disconnect anything you no longer use. That app and whoever runs it are your choice and your responsibility, not part of ExpenseGen — what it does with what it reads, and whether what it tells you is right, is between you and them. We may limit or switch off a connection that is being misused.

The loan and savings calculators, and anything the assistant says about whether you can afford something, are estimates worked from the figures you gave. A lender's own figures will differ. Neither is an offer of credit or a recommendation to borrow.

Receipts and images

You can attach a photograph to an expense. Your phone shrinks it before upload, and we keep it in private storage that is not reachable by URL — every view is checked against the same permission that guards the expense, so anyone who can see the expense can see its receipt and nobody else can. Deleting the receipt, the expense, or your account removes the image itself.

Only attach images you have the right to. Don't use a receipt attachment to store something that is not a receipt.

Contacting us

The contact form sends your name, email address and message to our support inbox so a person can read and reply. Treat it as email, because that is what it becomes: don't send passwords, card numbers or anything else you would not put in an ordinary message. We keep what you send for as long as it takes to deal with it, and we will delete it on request.

Anything you suggest to us, we may build. We are grateful for it, but sending an idea does not give you a claim over the feature or any payment for it.

Paying for Gen Pass

ExpenseGen is free to use and stays that way: recording expenses, groups, splitting, settling and export are not behind a paywall, and there is no limit on how many expenses you may record. The free tier carries a monthly allowance of AI credits — spent by receipt scanning, by the assistant, and by scanning a product — and a limit on how many receipt photographs are kept. The app shows what is left of the allowance, and those figures can change.

Gen Pass is an optional subscription that lifts the credit allowance and the receipt limit, and adds additional ledgers, PDF statements and your year in review. It is billed monthly or yearly, whichever you choose, and it renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time — from Me → Edit profile if you subscribed here, or in your Apple or Google account if you subscribed in the app, because only they can cancel what they sell. Either way you keep everything Gen Pass gives you until the period you have already paid for ends, and you are not charged again.

Who takes the payment depends on where you buy. In the app it isApple or Google, through their own in-app purchase, which is their requirement for anything sold inside an app. On this website it isStripe, on their own page. We never see or hold your card in either case. Receipts, and any notice about a failed payment or an expiring card, come from whichever of them sold it — as do refunds, which we cannot issue on their behalf.

Gen Pass belongs to your ExpenseGen account, not to the device you bought it on, so a subscription bought in the app works on the website and the other way round. Buy it once: subscribing on both rails would mean paying twice for the same thing, and we cannot cancel an Apple or Google subscription for you.

Prices can change. If a price you are already paying changes, we will tell you before it takes effect, and you can cancel rather than accept it. If something has gone wrong with a payment, email us — we would rather sort it out than have you dispute it with your bank.

Acceptable use

Don't attempt to break, overload or probe the service, don't scrape it, and don't use it to harass, defraud or mislead anyone — including people in your own groups. Automated access outside the app is not permitted without our written agreement. Sign-up is protected by a human check, and the contact form by both a human check and a rate limit; working around any of these is a breach of these terms.

Accuracy is yours

The arithmetic is ours and we take it seriously — splits are computed to the sen and always sum to the total. What the arithmetic runs on is yours: amounts, who was present, who paid. Check a balance before you act on it. We are not responsible for a payment made or not made on the strength of a figure in the app.

Availability and changes

ExpenseGen needs a working internet connection. Your records live on our servers so that a group stays in step across everyone's phones, so the app tells you to reconnect rather than letting you record something it cannot keep. There is no offline mode.

The service is provided as-is and as-available. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may change or discontinue features. If we make a change that materially affects these terms, we will update this page and the date at the top; continuing to use ExpenseGen after that means you accept it.

Ending it

You can delete your account at any time from Me → Edit profile → Delete my account. Deletion is real: after a 30-day window in which signing back in cancels it, your data is removed. Export first if you want a copy — the export is free and needs no request.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, profit or goodwill. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death, personal injury, or fraud.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and the courts of Malaysia have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
